Reading is SO important in first grade! These resources will give you access to thousands of books, and also help with practicing phonics, fluency, comprehension and more!
Please reach out if you'd like some guidance on where to go if you're looking for something specific.
i-Ready is the platform we use in school to help evaluate and monitor students' reading skills. We aim for 45 minutes of active engagement in the reading lessons per week.
This is the curriculum we use in school for reading skills. While we are out of the classroom, you can use these resources to help your child with vowel sounds, tricky words, spelling, and comprehension! I've linked the page for Unit 4, which is the unit we had just started in March, but you can use the menu on the left side of the page to access the other units.
This program is a favorite of mine. Your child can log in to his or her account using the password I sent home when school closed, and listen to a wide variety of books you won't find anywhere else. Then, he or she can answer questions and practice comprehension skills! My username for this is mahoney.
Raz-Kids, or Reading A-Z, is an amazing program much like Guided Readers. Your child can log in to his or her own account, read and listen to books, and then earn stars which can be spent on things like building a robot and decorating a spaceship! My username for this is eamahoney.
I LOVE Storyline Online when we are taking a moment to rest during the school day. There are so many wonderful books here, read by wonderful people! Plus, each story includes activity guides for parents and a link if you want to buy the book for yourself.
